‘Bill’ Mott Jr.

Former Iola area resident Arthur “Bill” Mott Jr., 89, of Kansas City, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center in Riverside, Mo.
He was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Gardner, the son of Arthur E. and Goldie (Sturm) Mott.
On Aug. 19, 1939, he married Eunice Corwin in Garnett. They lived in and around the Iola area for many years. He farmed and later worked at Lehigh Portland Cement Plant until the plant closed in 1970. He then moved to Kansas City with his family to work for North Kansas City School System as a custodian. He retired and in 1982 and moved to Geneva. She died May 4, 1989, and in 1995 he returned to Kansas City.
He is survived by three daughters, Billie Holden, Martha Sanders, Leona Tarwater and her husband, Dean, all of Kansas City; a daughter-in-law, Rena Traw and her husband, Dennis, Emporia; a sister-in-law, Clara Lee Francis; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A son, John A., daughter, Laura Cole, brother, Frank, four sisters, Ruth Roush, Susie Jirka, Lois King and Frances Stathem, and three granddaughters, Connie, Josephine and Lahoma Sanders, died earlier.
Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola to leave for graveside services at 1:30 in Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate.
