Beverley Ard

Beverley Ard, whose death Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, was reported previously in the Register, was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Savonburg, the daughter of Wendell Harold Theodore and Lenore (Collins) Johnson.
She attended country schools near Savonburg and Elsmore before graduating from Elsmore High School in 1943.
On June 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to Mervin Ard in Iola. They had seven children. The family has lived on their farm near Elsmore since 1951.
She was a member of Elsmore United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also the Elsmore Reporter for the Iola Register and an active volunteer at Moran Manor and Savonburg Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting with the H&H Quilting club and the UMW.
She was preceeded in death by her husband on June 26, 2006; a son, Larry, in 1997; a granddaughter, Lisa Ard in 1991; and a brother, Harold Johnson, in 2008.
She is survived by two sons, Richard and his wife, Shirley, and Robert, all of Elsmore; four daughters, Betty Jo Baker and her husband, Roger, Minneapolis, Minn., Ruth Endicott and her husband, Oscar, Fort Scott, Linda Larson, Minneapolis, Minn., and Brenda Mills and her husband, David, Elsmore; a sister, Barbara Worthington, St. Paul; a brother, Leon Johnson, and his wife, Flo Ann, Savonburg; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Johnson, Savonburg, and Joyce Mapp, Elsmore; 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were this morning at Elsmore United Methodist Church. Interment was at Elsmore Cemetery.
