Betty Cox

Betty Jean Morrison Cox, previously of Iola and Emporia, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 in Anaheim, Calif. She was 74.
She was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Moran, to Harry F. and Ruth O. Morrison. She attended elementary school in rural La Grande and high school in LaHarpe.
On Oct. 24, 1954 she married Glen E. Cox of Moran. They lived in Iola until the end of 1964 when the couple moved their family to southern California.
She was active in child care and children’s ministries with Central Baptist Church of Huntington Beach, Calif. Upon retirement, the couple alternated living between southern California and Emporia. Divorced in 2005, Betty returned to California where she made her home with her daughter and family until failing health required hospitalization.
She also was active owner/operator of Teacher’s Tool Shop in Emporia from 1990 to 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa J. Thomas, her husband Richard and two grandchildren, Dayton J. and McKayla R. of Cypress, Calif.; a son, Bruce A. Cox; two sisters, Delma L. Murray, Le Roy, and Nancy R. Bartholomew, Emporia; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Darrell Dean, Donald Ray, and Harry Wilbur Morrison.
Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 4602 W. 18th Ave., Emporia. The Rev. Roy Ferguson will officiate with visitation for family and friends at 10 a.m. There will be no graveside service.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church in Emporia.
