Ballenger services

Funeral services for Charles H. Ballenger of Iola, whose death Friday was reported in Friday’s Register, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Neosho County, the son of George Lee and Elsie Ellen (Bowlby) Ballenger. He grew up on farms west of Iola.
He married Aileen F. Wood. They made their home in Humboldt. He was a self-employed machinist and electrician. They moved to their home east of Iola in 1983 from Cherryvale. She died March 18, 2008.
He had his pilot license and owned a third interest in a plane. He liked to fly and enjoyed gardening and caring for stray animals.
He is survived by a daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Coltrane and her husband, Gary, rural LaHarpe; a son, Chuck, Edmond, Okla.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and Brian Coltrane; and two great-grandchildren.
A sister, Edith Winsor, died earlier.
