Alexander Almasi

Alexander Michael Almasi, 61, of LaHarpe died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his home.
He was born March 7, 1948, in Rosenheim, Germany, the son of Michael H. and Larissa Almasi. He grew up in the United States and graduated from high school in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1966. He later lived in Wichita.
His 26-year military career began in 1967 when he served with the U.S. Army 2nd Battalion 34th Armor Division in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He later transferred to the Kansas Army National Guard 891st Battalion, Combat Engineers, where he retired as sergeant.
On Nov. 22, 1971, he married Marilyn Jean Munsen in Iola where they made their home until moving to LaHarpe in 1977. She died Dec. 21, 1981.
On May 5, 1990, he married Diana S. Williams in Redfield. They made their home in LaHarpe.
He enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs and college sports and playing cards and video games.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Brent, Kansas City; and his mother-in-law, Doris Williams, Redfield.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
