Register brings home press awards

The Register brought home six first place plaques from the Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence competition. Winners were announced Saturday at the annual KPA convention in Wichita.
The Register also won nine second place awards and two for third place.
Susan Lynn, editor and publisher, won first place for column writing and story series and second place for editorial writing.
The Register also received first place in use of photographs in a single issue and second place for editorial page.
Reporter Richard Luken won first place for feature writing and second place in feature writing and youth story.
A sports photograph taken by Jocelyn Sheets, sports editor, was judged best in the Register’s division, which contains about 15 newspapers statewide.
Sheets also won second place for sports column and third for a photo illustration.
City Editor Bob Johnson won first place for agricultural writing and second place for feature photography, news photography, photo package, news story and agricultural writing.
Jenelle Johnson, family living editor, took third place in youth story.
