LaHarpe events abound

LaHARPE — The third annual LaHarpe Day celebration will feature a little bit of everything this weekend — antique tractors, a parade, even 10 Pounds of Cheese.
The festivities kick off Saturday morning with an auto show and food and craft booths open at the LaHarpe City Park. The auto show will feature antique tractors, cars, trucks and motorcycles. Winners will be crowned in the afternoon.
An 11 a.m. parade travels along Main Street, from Third Street to Ninth before the scene shifts back to the park for an afternoon of kids games.
Firefighters will partake in what they’ve billed as “water wars” — attempting to blast a barrel into their opponent’s side using water from a fire hose as its propellent.
An all-night softball tournament kicks off at 6 p.m..
Two bands will entertain crowds, starting with 10 Pounds of Cheese — a classic rock band with members from the Chanute and Humboldt areas — at 4 o’clock.
Backroads, another classic rock band from the area, will play as part of a street dance that begins at 8.
A portion of Sixth Street will be closed to traffic as the festival unwinds.
The festivities wrap up at 1 p.m. Sunday — shortly after the softball tournament concludes — with a horse pull.
