Iolan’s death an accident

Iolan Johnny Stoneking’s death near Colony last Thursday night has been ruled accidental.
Lt. Eric Lawrence, officer in charge of Iola Police Department, told the Register an investigation involving several agencies determined that Stoneking’s vehicle struck a large bale of hay in a field just north of Colony and caught fire. He died in the blaze. No explanation has been given as to why Stone-king was in the field.
During the investigation the residence at 701 N. Chestnut, owned by Stoneking, was secured by law enforcement. At conclusion of the investigation, it was determined the residence had no bearing on investigation of his death, Lawrence said.
In addition to Iola and Anderson County officers, those from Allen County, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and state Fire Marshal were involved in the investigation.
