ICT to bring back memories in music

Relive history and remember the music and songs of America’s war times — from the Civil War through current turmoil — as Iola Community Theatre presents “Memories, Dreams and Shadows — A Soldier’s Recollection” Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 6, 7 and 8 at the Warehouse Theatre, 203 S. Jefferson.
Performing in the “USO” style review of patriotic numbers and songs made popular during the time of past wars are Bryan Johnson, Dan Johnson, Jim Gilpin, Jim Rausch, Bill Wolf, Kim Strickler, Janet Nichols, Liz Ulrich, Trudy Kenyon Anderson, Susie McKinnis, Karen Toland and Jeff Cokely.
The show will also feature four original songs written by Jan Knewtson, who wrote and is directing the production.
The show is being peformed as an Iola Sesquicentennial event. The 33-star flag in the background of the show’s logo was the official flag flying over the nation when Iola was founded.
Knewtson is gathering photographs, preferably head shots, of any military veteran for “Iola’s Wall of Honor” that will be featured at the show. Photos should include name, rank and branch and may be dropped off at Sophisticated Rose, 19 S. Jefferson. Photos will be returned.
Tickets, which include dessert, are $15 for adults and $10 for students and may purchased at Sophisticated Rose. Doors open at 6 p.m., dessert is served at 7 and the curtain goes up at 7:30. Oct. 31 and Nov. 6 and 7. Nov. 1 and 8 performances are at 2 p.m.
