Graduation ceremonies set

Dr. David McDonald, a member of Allen County Community College’s class of 1981, will give the keynote address during the school’s annual commencement ceremony Saturday.
McDonald, named the college’s 2009 Distinguished Alumnus, is associate provost for research and dean of graduate studies at Wichita State University. He’s the son of Fern McDonald and the late Dennis McDonald of Iola.
The ceremony at ACCC, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at the ACCC gymnasium, is the first of several special events for all area schools.
A ceremony honoring those who have earned General Education Development (GED) certification is planned for 7:30 p.m. Monday at the ACCC gymnasium.
Crossroads Learning Center, an alternative high school in Gas, will host an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school gymnasium. Fifteen seniors will earn their diplomas. Additional Crossroads students will be honored for academic excellence.
Uniontown also has its high school graduation ceremonies Tuesday, with commencement at 7 o’clock at the West Bourbon Elementary School gymnasium. Four area high schools, Crest, Southern Coffey County, Humboldt and Marmaton Valley will have graduation exercises on May 16.
Iola High’s commencement begins at 2 p.m. May 17. Yates Center’s ceremony, also May 17, begins at 4 p.m.
