Area death prompts probe

A house at 701 N. Chestnut was cordoned off by Iola police officers early today as part of an investigation in the discovery overnight of a deceased occupant in a burned pickup truck north of Colony. A police officer remained at the house throughout the morning to prevent intrusions.
In a press release, Lt. Eric Lawrence, officer in charge of the Iola Police Department, said, “The initial investigation led law enforcement officials to a residence in Iola,” 701 N. Chestnut. “The identity of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin are notified and more information is known.”
Lawrence said state and local law enforcement agencies were cooperating in the investigation.
