Apply at City Hall

Applications for those seeking to serve on a committee that will help shape Iola’s new city council can be picked up at City Hall.
An article in Wednesday’s Register failed to list where folks could apply for the comittee. Iola City Administrator Judy Brigham told the Register information also will be made available on the city’s Web site — Or, applicants can call the administrator’s office, 365-4990, for more information.
Iolans in April overwhelmingly approved a referendum that disbands the existing city commission in favor of a larger governing body.
The city has flexibility for such things as setting the size of the city council and how frequently elections should be held, through the use of charter ordinances. The committee will endorse various charter ordinances for final approval by the existing commissioners.
Iola commissioners will accept applications until Oct. 2. The new committee will be chosen from among the applicants at the commissioners’ Oct. 13 meeting.
Commissioners briefly discussed the size of the citizens committee but nothing was decided.
